Willard Thompson Services to Be Held Saturday

KELLOGG - Funeral services for Willard V. Thompson, 69, of Kellogg, a resident of Newton until moving to Kellogg in 1972, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson-Reese Chapel in newton.

The Rev. James Conger, pastor of the Newton First Baptist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Johnson-Reese Chapel after noon today.

Thompson, who was known to CBers as Kellogg Cocklebur, died Wednesday evening at his home in Kellogg.

Survivors are three sons, Caroll and Vernon, both of Lake Jackson, Tex., and Perry W. of Newton; a daughter, Rosalee Thompson of Newton, five grandchildren; and a brother, Perry S. Thompson of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 1957, a son and a granddaughter.

Mr. Thompson had been a shipping clerk at the Maytag Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1971.

The son of Perry and Sarah Thompson, he was born Aug. 3, 1908 in Jasper County, attended Newton schools and was graduated from Newton Community High School.

He was married to Pauline V. Smith Jan. 1, 1940 at Newton. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 31 Mar 1978.
