Anita Pearl Bowans Hummel was born February 28, 1892 in Jasper County east of Monroe. She was the daughter of Henry and Cora Estella Austin Bowans.

She passed away July 29, 1967 at Newton at the age of 75 years, 5 months, and one day.

On December 10, 1913 she was married to Fred R. Hummel in Monroe. Her entire life was spent in Jasper County.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Terrance; and her husband, Fred, who passed away in 1953. She is survived by her two sons, Bernard Hummel of Boone and Raymond Hummel of Montrose, CA; and her daughter, Mrs. Bette Marshall of Monroe. Other survivors include four sisters, Inez, (Ray) Walker of Fairbault, MN, Beulah (Earl) Corry of Newton, Elva Bowans of Newton, and Leona (Ernest) Kile of Newton; and two brothers, Melvin Bowans of Prairie City and Archie Bowans of Monroe. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren as well as other relatives.
