Helen, the daughter of Jacobus and Nona (Chaplin) Karreman, was born July 18, 1927 in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1945. She was united in marriage with Edward C. “Ed” Peck on November 8, 1952, in Newton. Helen worked at the Parsons Company for several years, and then worked with her husband as the Sports Editor at the Newton Daily News for the rest of her career. She and Ed spent much of their time attending sports events in the area.

Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church and also spent many hours volunteering at the Jasper County Historical Museum. She loved antiques, finding value in everything and not wanting things to go to waste. She and Ed went to several flea markets and garage sales, often times looking for items to give to others. Helen loved reading and having picnics with her family. Later in life, she took several bus trips around the country.

Those left to honor Helen’s memory include her sister, Nona Blanch Ferris of Newton; nieces: Shirley Thornton, Karen (John) Eveland, and Beth (Richard) Evans; nephew, Robert Lagace; and her great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed.

Memorials to the First United Methodist Church or the Dollars for Scholars Ed Peck Scholarship Fund may be left at the church or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 15 Nov 2015.
