Emma Northcote, Former Newton Resident, Dies

Mrs. John (Emma) Northcote, 88, of Knoxville, a former resident of Newton, died Sunday at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville.

The Rev. William Travis, pastor of the Christian Church in Knoxville, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein.

Survivors are four sons, Richard of Knoxville, William of Westminster, Calif., Robert of Lakewood, Calif., and Howard of Scappoose, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Ruth) Neff of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Walter (Dorothy) Scott of Lake Havassou, Ore.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Edward Belphy and Arthur Belphy, both of Harpers Ferry; and a sister, Viola Pearson of Harpers Ferry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1977.

She was born Nov. 12, 1889 at Aurora, Ill.
