Bert Breen, 42, Jasper County Businessman, Dies

PRAIRIE CITY - Bert Breen Jr., 42, of Prairie City, a resident of Prairie City for 15 years and former resident of Monroe, died Friday evening at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Prairie City.

The Rev. Oren Reger, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Daniel Ramaker, pastor of the First Reformed Church in Prairie City, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.

A memorial has been established in Mr. Breen's name. Memorial may be left a the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City.

Survivors are his wife, Esther; a son, Todd Jay, 15, at home; a daughter, Julia Alice, 1, at home; his mother, Mrs. Ethell Breen of Monroe; and four sisters, Mrs. Charles (Blanche) Crews of Newton, Mrs. Junior (Margaret) Klein of Monroe, Mrs. Merle (Anna Mae) Vickroy of Knoxville and Mrs. Ronald (Henrietta) Moser of Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Mr. Breen, a contractor, was owner of Bert Breen Construction Co. and Skunk River Valley Concrete and Block.

Mr. Breen was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge and the Land Improvement Contractors Association.

The son of Bert and Ethell Reed Breen, he was born Dec. 13, 1935 in Marion County.

He was married to Esther Kingrey Dec. 30, 1960 in Attica. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 6 Feb 1978.
