ELLEN J. BARNES--Tuesday morning, Dec 13, 1921, the sweet spirit of Ellen J. Barnes went to be with her Master whom she loved and served so many years.

She was born in PA and came with her parents, Hodgen & Mary A. Barnes to Iowa, when a child, where she resided up to the time of her death.

She was converted at Monroe during the pastorate of Rev. Durfee in 1883 and lived a faithful and consistent Christian life. During all the years of her affliction she never complained of her lot in life but was submissive to the divine will. She talked of her departure as though she was taking a journey, no doubts, no fears. In talking to her friends she urged them to live the true Christian life. Her dying testimony was full of hope and cheer, expressive of her faith in Christ and assurance of a blessed immortality. "For her to live was Christ--to die was gain." The end came without a struggle.

She leaves to mourn her loss three sisters, Mrs. Mary Emma Tool, Lizzie B. Barnes, Mrs. Sarah Woody, and two brothers, Frank S. and Howard Barnes.

Funeral services were held at the home last Thursday morning at 10:00, conducted by Rev. F.F. Ilgenfritz, which was largely attended by sympathizing friends. A quartette sand "Sun of My Soul" "Abide With Me" and "It is Well With My Soul". Interment was in the Monroe cemetery. The pallbearers were Frank and Howard Barnes, brothers of the deceased, Merrill Woody of Des Moines, Ralph Woody, Clifford Woody of Monroe, and Patrick Metcalf of Reasnor.
