Harry Donovan Green passed from this life Monday, September 21, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Harry was born on February 6, 1938 to Gerald D. and LaVerne (Johnson) Green in Oakland, Iowa. He grew up in Oakland, where he attended school until moving to Hancock after 9th grade. Harry graduated from Hancock High School in 1956. After graduation, he worked as a meat cutter for the family-owned business, Hancock Frozen Food Center.

In 1958, Harry married the love of his life, Iris Rae Williams on March 7. The couple lived in Hancock until 1980, when Harry started a new career with the Iowa Department of Agriculture as a Meat Inspector. After one year in Dubuque county, he was transferred to Warren & Polk counties and moved to Norwalk, where he worked for the next 19 years. He retired in 2000, moved to Atlantic in 2006 and later to Newton in 2014.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Iris; four daughters: Elizabeth Hansen (Jay) of Grinnell, Kathryn Thompson of Newton, Julia Snyder of Atlantic and Laura O’Neal of Fort Dodge, 8 grandchildren (5 girls and 3 boys), 6 great-granddaughters and one brother, Peter Green of Cedar Edge, Colorado.

The family wishes to thank the deeply compassionate and caring staff of the NeuroTrama ICU at Mercy Medical Center.
