James Hickman Dies Here Today

Resident of County For 66 Years Dies at Skiff Hospital This Morning

James Harvey Hickman, 79, pioneer Jasper County farmer, died this morning at 3:20 o’clock at the Skiff Memorial hospital, following an illness of influenza which later developed into pneumonia. Funeral services have not been arranged, pending word from relatives.

Mr. Hickman was born in Winchester, Ind., in 1852, son of Samuel and Martha Hickman, and came to Jasper county when thirteen years old. He had lived on a farm near the Oak Ridge school for the last 46 years.

He was married to Mima C. Green of Clark, Mo., about 49 years ago in Newton and to this union five children were born, all of whom survive. They are Mrs. Ethel Smith of Des Moines, Mrs. Maude Bufler of Laurel, Mrs. Mae Bishop of West Concord, Minn., Earl, who lives north of Newton and Walter, who lives on the home place.

Besides his wife and five children he is survived by three grandchildren and a brother, Eli Hickman, of Springdale, Alberta, Canada.
