Dave was born Oct. 22, 1942 at Creston, Iowa to Henry (Bud) and Ruth Harshaw Brooner. Dave attended 22 schools in childhood while traveling with his family as his father worked bridge construction. Dave was working as a heavy equipment operator when he was drafted in Feb of 1967. He married Cindy Wirth on Aug 25, 1967 and shipped out to Viet Nam on Sept 13, 1967. He served in Army Aviation working on Huey helicopters during Tet 1968. He earned the Commendation Medal for Heroism during that offense. He later served at various bases including Korea giving him the opportunity to travel around the world several times. He received an honorable discharge in 1974. Dave worked with McAninch Corporation for 16 years before retiring in 2002. He was a 51 year member of Operation Engineers Local 234B. Upon retirement Dave thoroughly enjoyed camping with his RV, especially with the Wapello Traveling Sams.

Dave suffered a stroke in April 2013 that ended his camping and his ability to drive his pickup. When asked what his hobbies were he replied talking to people and helping people. If he had a motto it was "Go, Go, Go". He made friends where ever he went. He loved to tell stories and jokes, many times the same joke over and over. He was very proud of and loved his children and grandchildren.

Dave will be greatly missed by his wife, Cindy of Monroe, Son Clint (Kim) Brooner of Montezuma, son Michael (Janey) of Ankeny; grandchildren Stephanie, Lucy, Devin, Conner and Molly Brooner; Danielle Klein and Bradley Klein; Brother Gary(Janice) of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Jodie Lynn and his parents. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 11 Sept 2015.
