Frances Elizabeth Spears, 93, of Albia, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.

Frances was born Nov. 14, 1921, to Harry and Carrie (Newman) Tisue in Moravia. She graduated from Moravia High School, Class of 1939. On May 31, 1942, Frances married Daniel Spears in Unionville, Mo. They shared 48 years of marriage together before Dan’s passing on Sept. 13, 1990.

Frances worked as a social worker for most of her life. She enjoyed crocheting, needlework, and in her earlier years, square dancing. Her real joy in life was spending time with her friends and family.

She is survived by her sons, Dennis Spears of Albia, and Benny (Annette) Spears of Newton; her daughter, Connie (Mike) Haluska of Decorah; and a special granddaughter Pepper (Larry) Champlin of Albia. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; her parents, Harry and Carrie; a son, Kenneth Spears; a granddaughter; and a great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Reverend Phillip Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the Tharp Funeral Home with Frances’ family present from 4 to 7 p.m.

A memorial has been established to the Albia Homestead Activity Fund or the Union Chapel Cemetery Association.
