Vickie Blain, 65, of Newton died on Friday, August 21, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 26, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, August 25, at the funeral home. Memorials in Vickie’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Vickie, the daughter of Max and Rosetta (Maletta) Meldrem, was born on May 9, 1950 in Grinnell. She graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1968 and then received her cosmetology degree in Marshalltown. After graduation she worked at Candy Cane Beauty Lane in Newton. She later worked as a para-pro for the Newton Community School District and for Hansen Directory. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, music, and playing games and cards. Vickie also enjoyed gardening and canning.

Those left to honor Vickie’s name are her daughter, Summer (Matt) Guy of Newton; son, T.J. (Amie) Blain of Oskaloosa; her grandchildren, Taylor, Tanner, and Tyler Guy and Cooper, Marley, and Thea Blain; brother, Brady (Julie) Meldrem of Ottumwa; sister-in-law, Becky (Keith) Harvey of Ames; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Blain in 2011; and her brother, Dave Meldrem in 2009. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 21 Aug 2015.
