The journey of life for Alta Marie (Van Zante) Vander Linden began on July 6, 1925 by Otley, IA. The daughter of Anthonie and Marie (Hessing) Van Zante, she attended school and lived with her parents until the time of her marriage.
On February 10, 1948, she was united in marriage to Raymond Kenneth Vander Linden in Otley Reformed Church. Alta and Raymond made their home near Monroe, where they farmed until retirement. Alta moved into Pella care facilities in 2004 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
Most important to Alta were her family and faith. A household of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren provided her with great joy. She was a remarkable baker and cook and used her talents as a cook at the Monroe Schools for many years. Her children and grandchildren have memories of her sugar cookies that would "melt in your mouth" and sneaking a few from the freezer thinking she would never notice. She also enjoyed playing piano and organ and sewing for her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of the Otley Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Dorcas Circle. She was also a member of Today's Club and Gideon's Women's Auxiliary.
Those left to honor her memory include her five children, Willa Mae Wood of Edina, MN; Ardith Lou Garlock of White House, TX; Patricia Fay (Dan) Rourke of Peoria, AZ; Alan Ray (Sheryl) Vander Linden of Monroe, IA; and Arvin Lee (Ruth) Vander Linden of Pella, IA; 10 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two infant brothers, her brother Hessel, grandchild Michelle Garlock and two great grandchildren Reid Vander Linden and Marlee Schuetzle.
Alta passed away on Friday, August 14, 2015, at The Cottages in Pella at the age of 90. An open visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Monroe. The family will not be present.
