KNOXVILLE, Iowa - Ada Holmes, 82, a resident at the West Ridge Manor in Knoxville, died Monday, Dec. 9, at the manor.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Evans-McCleery Funeral Home in Knoxville with the Rev. David Vander Leest officiating. Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton.

Memorials to Hospice of Central Iowa will be accepted.

Mrs. Holmes was born March 13, 1914, in Woudenberg, Holland, the daughter of William and Mary Van Kolfschoten Zegers. The family moved to Iowa when Mrs. Holmes was 12-years-old.

She married Robert Holmes Feb. 14, 1976, in Knoxville.

A resident of Marion County most of her life, Mrs. Holmes owned and operated several restaurants in Knoxville and Pella. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter, Maria McConeghey of Monroe; a son, Carroll Pope of Pella; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Bill Zegers of Newton and Tim Zegers of Arizona; and two sisters, Hendrika Rozendaal of Sully and Nellie Van Hemert of Pella. ~ The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, Iowa Dec 1976.
