George B. Van Zee
A Celebration of George's Life will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2015, at the Pence – Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the services and with a lunch following the services. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Samaritan Purse or Immanuel Baptist Church or to George's family, in his name. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery near Prairie City.
George B. Van Zee, 91, the son of Martin and "Nellie" (Meppelink) Van Zee, was born March 24, 1924, near Prairie City. He graduated from the Prairie City High School, Class of 1941. On June 1, 1953, George was united in marriage to Carol Lee Wilson in Prairie City.
Longtime residents of the Prairie City, Newton and Pella areas, he was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton and the Studebaker Drivers Club. George loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed reading, music and cars. George, entered into the gates of Glory on August 3, 2015, at the Newton Health Care Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Van Zee and a sister Joan Erlandson.
Those left to honor George's memory include his wife Carol Lee Van Zee; his daughters: Deanna (Harold) Manley of Newton and Lori (Tom) DiGiambatista of Phoenix, AZ and their children: Nathan (Ashley), Jordan, Ethan and Bethany; his son Craig (Magie) Van Zee of Westlake Village, CA and their children: Samatha, Shage and Siena; a sister Ruth Davenport of Boerne, TX; his two brothers: Herman (Kathryn) Van Zee of Prairie City and Donald (Dorothy) Van Zee of Hiawatha; several nieces and nephews; and many his friends. ~ The Pence-Reese Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 3 Aug 2015.
