Delphena Durr, Former Area Resident, Dies

ROCK CREEK – Funeral services for Mrs. Arthur Delphena Durr, 87, of Friendship Manor in Grinnell, a former resident of the Rock Creek community, were held today at the Smith Funeral Home East in Grinnell.

The Rev. Morris Hay, pastor of the Hickory Grove Church, conducted services. Burial was in the Rock Creek Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Rock Creek Cemetery will be accepted. They may be left at the Smith Funeral Home.

She died recently at the Grinnell General Hospital.

Survivors are a son, Leroy E. of Grinnell; five daughters, Mrs. Glen (Irene) Sparks of Topock, Ariz., Mrs. Leland (Thelma) Taylor and Mrs. Ronald (Gladys) Benson, both of Grinnell, Mrs. Earl (Lucille) Yenecek of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Bette Anderson of Aneheim, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1955, five brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Durr, who had resided in the Rock Creek Community for 44 years before moving to Grinnell in 1960, was a member of the Westfield Ladies Aid.

The daughter of Samuel and Orilla Clapp Decatur, she was born Jan. 21, 1891 in the Rock Creek Community.

She was married Nov. 11, 1911 in Kellogg. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Wed 7 Jun 1978.
