Albert G. De Meyer

Albert G. De Meyer, 68, of 1104 N. 5th Ave. E., a longtime resident of newton, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 20, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of complication of abdominal surgery.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jerome Egel, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, will conduct services and burial will be in the Veterans Section of Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the organization of the donor's choice will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Donna; a daughter, Cynthia (Mrs. Lee) Sparks of Middleton, Wis.; two grandchildren; a brother, Harry De Meyer Jr. of newton; and two sisters, Georgette (Mrs. Gale) Eaton of Marshalltown and Vivian (Mrs. Eugene) Richardson of Richardson, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. De Meyer was an army veteran of World War II, serving with the 85th Mountain Infantry Regiment in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy.

He was a member of the Newton American Legion Post III, a life member of the Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655, Izaak Walton League, Maytag Management Club and Newton Elks Lodge 1270.

He was a superintendent in tool and die service at Maytag Plant II, retiring in 1985 after 34 years of service.

The son of Harry and Sedonie Louise Maher De Meyer, he was born Sept. 21, 1922 at Fairfield and was a 1941 graduate of Newton Community High School.

He was married to Donna Beth Hulse July 29, 1950 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Thurs 21 Feb 1991.
