COLFAX – Oscar Rowell Franz, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 5, at his home near Colfax.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home at Colfax.

The Rev. Jerry Harris, pastor of the Colfax First Baptist Church, will conduct services and burial will be in Mc Keever Cemetery, north of Colfax.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday and family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Colfax Senior Citizens may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Lillian; a son, Robert, of Colfax; a daughter, JoAnn Franz, a missionary in Niger, Africa; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge in Des Moines, the United Auto Workers, Retirees Union, Local 997 in Newton and the red Men Lodge.

A farmer, Mr. Franz retired in 1973 after being employed at the Maytag Co. in Newton for 25 years.

The son of Henry and Minnie Belle Braden, he was born Oct. 7, 1908 in Henderson, Ky.

He was married to Lillian Bettis March 2, 1935 In Des Moines. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 7 Jan 1991.
