Mabel Vander Linden

Funeral Services for Mabel Vander Linden, 94, a resident of Newton since 1981, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, pastor of the Newton First United Methodist Church, will conduct service. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Thursday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the First United Methodist Church in Newton will be accepted.

She died Tuesday at Careage of Newton.

Survivors are a daughter, Carol (Mrs. Dale) Oleson of Newton; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Louis, and four brothers.

Mrs. Vander Linden, who was employed at the Medical Business Bureau in Des Moines, had taught in Prairie City.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, was active in the Business Women’s Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church in Des Moines and RSVP.

The daughter of George L. and Hulda Porter McFadden, she was born July 27, 1896 in Prairie City and was graduated from Prairie City Community High School in 1914, Highland Park College in Des Moines and the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls.

She was married to Louis Vander Linden June 25, 1919 in Prairie City. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Wed. 20 Feb 1991.
