Helen M. Tyner Hanke, 94, of the Newton Health Care Center, formerly 910 N. 5th Ave. W., died Tuesday morning, Jan 1, at the center.

Graveside rites will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Newton Union Cemetery.

The Rev. David Raymond, pastor of the Congregational United Church of Christ, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society will be accepted.

Wallace-Pence Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Survivors are a grandson, Dennis Agan of Newton; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Louise Copeland of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, James Koutsky, in 1939, second husband, Leland Hanke, in 1961, a brother, Charles, three sisters, Mary, Leila and Lois, and a daughter, Joan Agan in 1954.

Mrs. Hanke, a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Chapter HS-PEO and NI Club, had been employed at the Newton Library from 1949 to 1961 and by the Selective Service Board from 1961 to 1970.

The daughter of Charles W. and Margaret A. White Tyner, she was born Oct 18, 1896 in Omaha, Neb., was graduated from South Omaha High School in 1915 and attended Omaha University and Bellevue College.

She was married to James W. Koutsky in 1921 in Omaha, Neb., and Leland Hanke in 1941 in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Wed 2 Jan 1991.
