LUCAS- Neal Alexander, 53, of Lucas, formerly of Sully, a missionary for more than a quarter of a century, died Friday, March 22, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lynnville-Friends Church.

The Rev. Richard Friend, Harold Mc Elwee, Pearl Sams and Cornie Van Wyngarden will conduct services.

Burial will be in the Lynnville Friends Cemetery.

Family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Sully Garden Chapel Funeral Home.

Memorials to the Jericho Hills Camp near Lucas may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Esther; a son, Lowell, A student at the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls; two daughters, Laurie (Mrs. David) Budding of Pella and Linda (Mrs. William) Penewit of Dayton, Ohio; four grandchildren; and a sister, Janice (Mrs. Ed) Cassidy of Kansas City, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Mr. Alexander, a 1961 graduate of Vernnard College in Oskaloosa, was a missionary with the American Sunday School Union for 20 years and for the World Gospel Mission for five years.

He was the superintendent of the Jericho Hills Camp near Lucas at the time of his death.

Mr. Alexander was ordained in the Association of Fundamental Ministers of America.

The son of Joseph and Opal Gracey Alexander, he was born Dec. 21, 1937 in Chicago, Ill., and grew up and was educated in Chicago.

He was married to Esther Dorothy Dec. 21, 1958.

He served for eight years in the Army Reserve. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 25 Mar 1991.
