FLONNIE E. MASSENGALE

Flonnie E. Massengale, 82, of 1131 Reed St., Grinnell, died of a liver ailment Monday, April 8, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bruce W. Fuerbach officiating. Vocalists were Leroy and Doris Calvin, and organist was Nancy Sears. Pallbearers were Earl Blair, Eldred Cox, Paul Elliott, Dwight Niday, Dean Smith and Howard Thompson.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Charles W. and Nancy Anna Morrow Dick, she was born Aug. 28, 1908, in Gregory, Ky. She attended Kentucky schools.

She was married to Menifee E. Massengale, Oct. 26, 1927, in Monticello, Ky. The couple came to the Grinnell area to farm in 1936. They retired in 1970 and came to Grinnell. Mrs. Massengale was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the church's Bible Study Club.

She is survived by 10 children, Ray of Redondo Beach, Calif., Floyd of Barnhardt, Mo., Ann Salyers of Newton, Carl of Otterville, Mo., Jerry of Sedalia, Mo., Alta McNaul of Grinnell, Rex of Colorado Springs, Colo., Larry of Montezuma, David of Des Moines and Alma Bennett of Blue Eye, Mo.; one brother, Charles Dick of Jefferson City, Mo.; three sisters, Bessie Cooper of Grinnell, Lou Fields of Winchester, Ind., and Mary Stein of Union City, Ind.; 45 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, James and Kenneth; five brothers, Scillis, Oscar, Rufus, Porter and Warner Dick; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials in her name may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church. ~ The Grinnell Herald-Register, Grinnell, Iowa; April 11, 1991.
