Vergil Fleming, 114 E. 10th St. S., died today, Feb. 7, at the Skiff Medical Center.

Wallace-Pence Funeral Home is in charge of arrangemetns which have not been completed. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Thurs 7 Feb 1991.

Vergil L. Fleming

Funeral services for Vergil L. Fleming, 79, of 114 E. 10th St. S., a lifelong resident of the Newton and Reasnor areas, were held Saturday, Feb. 9, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Bill Calhoun, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation with the family was held Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

He died Thursday morning at Skiff Medical Center.

Survivors are his wife, Ruth; a son, Richard of Newton; a daughter, Nancy (Mrs. Calvin) Nikkel of Kellogg; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Vearl and Ivan.

Mr. Fleming, who attended the United Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign wars Post 1655 and American legion Post 111, had worked in the tool and die department at the Maytag Co., at the time of his retirement in 1977.

The son of Andrew and Rosa Birkenholtz Fleming, he was born Jan. 1, 1912 in Jasper County and attended Monroe schools.

He was married to Ruth Decker July 2, 1939 in Nashua. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 11 Feb 1991.
