Former Resident Dies in Texas

Clara (Mrs. August) Wilkening, 70, former Baxter resident, died Tuesday, January 20, 1981 in Harlingen, Texas, where she had resided for 10 years.

Services were held from the chapel of Estel-Perrin Funeral Home in Marshalltown on Monday, January 26, with the Rev. L. R. Meinecke of State Center officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. Casket bearers were Richard Wilkening, Virgil Wilkening, Paul Wilkening, Marvin Stone, Reuben Deppe and Thomas Bullock.

Mrs. Wilkening was born August 26, 1910 near Baxter, the daughter of William and Mary Mueller Selberg. She became a member of the Bethany Reformed Church upon confirmation June 27, 1926. Following graduation from Baxter High School with the class of 1928, she attended the Marshalltown Business College and was employed in Marshalltown.

She married August Wilkening September 8, 1935 and they made their home on the Selberg farm home northeast of Baxter until retiring to make their home in Harlingen, Texas.

She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. Milton) Matzek of Plano, Texas, a son, Clifford, of Alexandria, Virginia, and three grandchildren. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Thurs 29 Jan 1981
