Former Baxter Teacher Dies; Rites Saturday

Myrtle (Mrs. Calvin) Noah, 85, of the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, died at the hospital there Wednesday, August 8.

She was born Nov. 10, 1893, the daughter of David and Rhoda Sniff Whaley, south of Marshalltown. She was married to Calvin A. Noah Aug. 6, 1929, in Marshalltown.

Mrs. Noah was raised and educated in Albion and graduated from Drake University. She served as a missionary in the Belgian Congo, Africa, for four years and then taught school in Baxter. She and her husband ran a hardware business in Baxter until his death in 1955. Mrs. Noah went to Marshalltown in 1961 and spent the last several years at the Veterans Home.

Survivors include two children, Leo of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Loretta (Mrs. Cecil) Brown of Milwaukee, Wis. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and half-brothers and sisters, Clarence Whaley, Mrs. Ruth Cabel and John Whaley Sr., Albion.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother.

Services were held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Dean, Central Christian Church, officiating. Burial was at Restland Cemetery in Baxter. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa
