Mary Lee Adams Yohe passed away peacefully on March 12, 2013 in Gilbert, Ariz. after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease and Leukemia. A memorial service was held in Gilbert, Ariz. on Saturday, march 16. An additional service will take place on Saturday, June 22 at the Peace Lutheran Church and at the Clayton Cemetery in Clayton. A celebration of life and dedication of Mary’s antique collection is scheduled on Sunday, June 23 at the Colfax Historical Society. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Colfax Historical Society (PO Box 123, Colfax, Iowa 50054) in her honor would be appreciated.
Mary was born in Clayton, on Jan. 10, 1929. She created a network of friends that she kept in touch with throughout her life. Mary and Don first lived in Clayton after their marriage. They also lived in Waterville, Mankato, Minn.; Hansell, Ackley, Safford, Ariz., Colfax, Tempe, Ariz., Gold Canyon, Ariz. and finally in Gilbert, Ariz. where she received care from her daughter, Aletha DeRonde, and her family. Throughout Mary’s life, she did not allow her illness to change her outlook on life. She lived each day with compassion and concern for others, placing their welfare before hers. She was a kindhearted, generous wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, and has blessed those in her life with a legacy of love. We will continue to cherish memories of her antique-souvenir collecting, budgeting, baking of delicious cinnamon rolls, and infectious laughter. Mary will be remembered as a social woman, always chatting on the phone or catching up with friends on Facebook. Mary and Don spent 40 years collecting antiques from Clayton, Ackley and Colfax. Their Ackley souvenir collection was donated to the Ackley Historical Society, and their cumulative Colfax collection contains over 150 items which include rare china, spoons, postcards and one-of-a kind items.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Donald; sister Abigail; and children Ralph, Bernie, Aletha (husband James), Dean (wife Nikki) and Robert (wife Karen); 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Jane Adams; brothers Gordon, Dixon and Stanley Adams; and son, Dennis.
