Funeral services for Loren Lewis Altemeier, 85, of the Newton Health Care Center, a lifelong resident of Newton, were held Monday, April 29, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jerome Egel, pastor of the holy Trinity Lutheran church, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery.

Visitation with the family was held Sunday at the funeral home.

He died Friday afternoon at the Skiff Medical Center of pneumonia.

Survivors are a son, Dr. Thomas of St. Louis Park, Minn.; two daughters, Marjorie Valentine of Niles, Mich., and Karen Altemeier of Salt Lake City, Utah; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Clare of Baxter, and a sister, Ruth (Mrs. Arthur) Douglas of Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elenora, in 1988, a son, Richard, in 1990, two brothers, Dale and Wayne, and a great-grandson.

Mr. Altemeier, a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, was a retired farmer and owner of Altemeier Pie Bakery.

The son of Lewis Conrad and Katherine Irene Annyas Altemeier, he was born Jun 15, 1905 in Newton.

He was married to Julia Eleanora Lamb June 14, 1935 in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Tues 30 Apr 1991.
