James W. “Jim” Deitrick, 77, of Newton, died Friday, June 12, 2015, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 26 at the Izaak Walton League, 889 Hwy F36 W. in Newton to celebrate Jim’s life.

A private family burial will be held at the Newton Union Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. Memorials may be left at the Izaak Walton at the time of the Celebration of Life or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Memorials may also be mailed to the Wallace Family Funeral Home please add, Attn: Deitrick Family on the envelope.

Those left to honor Jim’s memory are his stepchildren, Jeni Wickliff (Dave Thomasson) of Newton and Jim (Josie) Carter of Newton, stepdaughter-in-law Cathy Carter; several step-grandchildren; his siblings, Ruthie Rose of Newton and Dwight (Wanda) Deitrick of Prophetstown, Illinois; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carol in 2007; stepson, Bob Carter in 2014; brother, Lyle Deitrick; sisters, Lylia Nichols and Marlene Rose; and brothers in-law, Cliff Rose, LD Rose and Arthur Nichols. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa 16 Jun 2015.

Jim served his country in the U. S. Army and U. S. Army Reserves from 1958-1964.

Jim was a lithographer; he had worked for the Vernon Company in Newton for many years and retired from ColorFX in 2001. He was a long-time member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. He had a love for gardening, woodworking, photography, hunting, fishing, country music, his wiener dogs and he was a big Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
