J. Harlan Worth

LYNNVILLE – Funeral services for J. Harlan “Red” Worth, 78, of Rt. 1, Lynnville, were held Saturday, March 2, at the cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids.

The Rev. Charles Mehaffey of Ashbury United Methodist Church conducted services. Burial was in the cedar Memorial Park in Cedar Rapids.

Memorials to a fund in his name will be accepted.

He died Thursday at his home.

Survivors are his wife, Phoebe; three daughters, Linda Miller of Cedar Rapids, Judy Hartman of Mechanicsville and Jill Worth of Mount Pleasant; two step-daughters, La Reta Gauley of Grinnell and Doris Neleman of Kellogg; a step-son, John Rupp Jr. of Grinnell; four grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Colene; and a grandson.

Mr. Worth, who helped build Tauley Air Force Base in Greenland in 1951, was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He had been a heavy equipment mechanic for Herman M. Brown for 30 years prior to retiring in 1978.

Mr. Worth, a former resident of Cedar Rapids, was born Feb. 28, 1912 in Prole.

He was married to Colene Hollingsworth May 5, 1938 in Des Moines and to Phoebe Huff March 8, 1986. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News 4 Mar 1991.
