James D. Gunsaulus

Graveside rites for James D. Gunsaulus, 56, of 732 W. 9th St. S., a lifelong resident of Newton, will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends are asked to be at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Saturday to travel to the cemetery as a group.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the first Lutheran Church.

The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to Capstone Center of Newton will be accepted.

He died Wednesday at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.

Survivors are his wife, Karen; two sons, Micah James and Aaron James, both of Newton; a sister, Deloris Butler of Newton; and a brother, Ronnie of Long Beach, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Darlene Miesner, in 1990.

Mr. Gunsaulus, an insurance agent for 32 years, was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Foundation Board of Capstone Center.

The son of Frank and Pearl Wood Gunsaulus, he was born March 2, 1934 in Newton and was graduated from Newton Community High School and the University of Iowa at Iowa City.

He was married to Karen Laffoon Dec. 26, 1961 in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 1 Feb 1991.

Jim's life work was that of a General Agent for Life Insurance. Jim was real interested in the family genealogy and kept a collection of photos as well as spending time to look up family connections. He died suddenly early Feb. 1991. He death came as a shock to everyone who knew him.
