Obituary-James Leonard Bauer

James Leonard Bauer, son of Leonard and Elizabeth Bauer was born in Ohio January 31, 1880 and died March 16, 1937. He came to Iowa with his parents at the age of thirteen and since then has been a resident of Poweshiek Township.

January 26, 1910, he was united in marriage with Bertha Hunter and to this union were born a daughter, Ruth and a son Gerald, who were with their father during his last illness.

Mr. Bauer was a member of the I.O.O.F. and of the Farmers’ Evening Club. He was a man who numbered his friend by his acquaintances for his greeting was always a smile. A kind and thoughtful husband and father whose sole thought was for the welfare of his family and whose greatest pride was in his children. He leaves with his loved ones a precious memory to cherish.

Those friends who have been associated with him as neighbors, his business associates and everyone who has ever known him will speak for his honesty, his neighborliness and his keen judgment in all matters pertaining to the management of his farm or of any community affair.

Besides the widow and his two children, he leaves to mourn his loss, his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Bauer, two brothers Elmer and Mitchellville, and Pearl of Prairie City, and one sister Mrs. Sylvia Black of De Moines. He also leaves three nieces, seven nephews and a host of sorrowing friends.

Funeral services were conducted March 19th from the Presbyterian Church with Dr. Theodore Morning officiating. Burial was had in the McKeever Cemetery. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thurs 1 Apr 1937.
