Obituary – Mrs. Sam Dean

Maggie Adams was born near Boonville, Mo., on May 7, 1965, and departed this life February 10, 1932, age 66 years, 9 months, and 3 days. She was the daughter of Stephen and Fannie Adams and was one of a family of fifteen children, all of whom except two, together with the father and mother, have preceded her in death.

In 1883 she came to Iowa, to join her sister, Mrs. Samuel Redman, of Cedar Mines, and has since resided in this state.

She was united in marriage with Samuel Dean, August 11, 1896, at St. Thomas, near Colfax. Mr. and Mrs. Dean have made Colfax their home since this date. No children came to bless this union, but a nephew Owen Redman, was give a place in the home, educated, and sent out to a life of service in the world.

Mrs. Dean has long been affiliated with the African Methodist Episcopal Church and consistently supported her church, while there was a branch of it in this community. In recent years she has loyally supported the work of the Lord in the Bethel Baptist Church of this city, being unable to attend the church services during the current winter she has persistently clung to the inspiring Christian services, broadcast by radio, and frequently mingled her voice with those of others in singing the cheering songs of Zion.

Faithful to church, faithful to home and faithful to the ideals of her community, she strove constantly to cheerfully contribute her bit to promote the welfare and general good of all around her.

She leaves to mourn her loss, a loving and faithful husband, Samuel Dean, of this city, one brother, Michael Adams, of Boonville, Mo., one sister, Jennie Lewis, of this city, a large group of nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

Like the Apostle Paul, she has fought a good fight, she has finished the course, she has kept the faith. She has gone to meet our Master and to be met by Him over in the great beyond.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Methodist church with Rev. L. C. McDonald officiating.

Burial was made at Highland Cemetery.

Card of Thanks

We wish to express our thanks to the friends and neighbors who were so kind in their words of sympathy and deeds, during the illness and death of our beloved wife. Also we want to thank those who furnished cars for the service, the people of the Methodist Church, those who sent floral contributions and all who assisted in any way.
