She had been a resident of Colfax and vicinity for many years and was well know here. Her health during the past few years has not been good and for the past few weeks has been in a serious condition.

Mrs. Ann Hartnett was born in England, July 5, 1850, and departed this life March 18th, 1932, age 81 years, 8 months, and 17 days.

She came with her mother to the United States at the early age of 14 years, and joined her father and brother at Bloomsburg, Pa. Later she, with her family, moved to Boone, Ia., where she was united in marriage to John Hartnett. Shortly after her marriage, she with her husband, moved to Jasper County and resided south of Newton until 1888 at which time she, with the family, moved to Oswalt.

While still in her youth she united with the Church of England. After moving to this country she transferred her membership to the Methodist Church, where she was a regular attendant as long as health would permit.

Nine children blessed this union, five boys, three of whom survive their mother, Morris of Colfax, Harry of Benld, Ill., and Carl of Gillespie, Ill., and four daughters, two of whom survive, Margaret Gorman of Peoria, Ill., and Ellen Hartnett of Sterling, Colo.

Mrs. Hartnett is survived besides the immediate family by three sisters, Mrs. Thursa Trotter of Newton, Mrs. Mae Morris of Cumberland, Mo., and Mrs. Bessie Jorgenson of Newton, twenty-one grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist Church with Rev. L. C. McDonald officiating. The music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Van Dyke, Mrs. P. W. Farrell and Luke Sharples, with William Cubit at the organ.

Pall bearers were Harry Darrock, Henry Barbour, William Thomas, Tom Williams, Tom Roberts and John Evans. Interment was had at McKeever’s Cemetery north of Colfax.
