Funeral Services for I. W. Black Held Sun.

Passed Away Feb. 10th at Home Here After Short Illness

Funeral services for I. W. Black, who passed away the night of Feb. 10th, were held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist Church in this city, with Rev. L. C. McDonald, pastor, officiating.

Mr. Black had been a resident of this community for almost half a century. He always took an important part in the life of the community and up until the time of his last sickness, was alert to the affairs of his city, county, state and nation, ever keeping himself informed on present day subjects.

Isaiah Wilbert Black, son of Robert and Eliza Hanna Black, was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Dec. 28, 1850, and passed to the life beyond on February 10, 1932, at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 12 days.

On May 31, 1877 he was united in marriage with Anna Deischer of Monticello, Iowa, who for more than fifty-five years shared with him the joys and burdens of life.

In 1890 he came to the farm north of Colfax, where he lived until his retirement to town in 1909. There he reared his family of three children, all of who, with the mother, survive him. They are Charles of Des Moines, Clarence of Wapello, Iowa, and Elmer, who resides in Brownsville, Texas. One sister, Mrs. Emma Ward, of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, eight grand children, other relatives and a host of neighbors and friends are left with the wife and children to contemplate the broken circle, “till the day breaks and the shadows flee away.”

Having been reared in a home where it was recognized that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” his whole life (missing word) centered around the enduring qualities of love, devotion, loyalty and service, as a Christian, a husband, father, citizen and friend, he was true to every obligation. He was a man who cultivated an interest in people which was swift in sympathy with joy or sorrow. It is hard to realize that he has gone the way of un-returning, yet from the depths of our hearts, we thank God for all that he was to us. He leaves a legacy far richer than silver or gold-the fragrance of a beautiful life-a life well spent that has gone to continue living in the spirit which Christ calls the abundant life. His work is well done.

John A. Davis sang two lovely selections with William Cubit presiding at the organ. Pall Bearers were C. H. Scoville, W. C. Crisman, Will Rush, I. H. Nicodemus and Harry Cross of Colfax and Floyd Hulse of Mingo.

Burial was made at McKeever Cemetery. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thurs 18 Feb 1932.
