Zelda L. Beem Harsha,88, of Nelson Manor Care Center, formerly of Baxter, died Monday, May 22, at the Nelson Manor.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 25 at the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ.

The Rev. Bill Gardner conducted services.

Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery in rural Baxter.

Survivors are a daughter, Mary (Mrs. William) Stewart of Newton; a son, David Harsha of Urbandale; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Warner of Baxter; and a brother, Joe Beem of Mingo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son and a sister.

Mrs. Harsha, a former Jasper County teacher, was a member of the Ira Christian Church and the Bethel Missionary Society.

The daughter of George and Maude Holsinger Beem, she was born Nov. 27, 1906 in Des Moines, was raised in Farrar, and was graduated from Farrar High School and from Des Moines university, awarded a teaching certificate.

She was married to Wayne Harsha June 6, 1934 in Farrar.

Mrs. Harsha resided on a farm near Baxter before moving into Baxter in 1964. She moved to Nelson Manor in 1991. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thurs 1 June 1995.
