February 22, 1919 - June 4, 2015

Edith Margaret DeVries, age 96 of Monroe, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at The Cottages in Pella. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Otley Reformed Church in Otley. Burial will follow at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. The family will greet friends from 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. at a luncheon prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to The Cottages and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The daughter of, William A. and Katie (Vander Zyl) Vos, Edith was born on February 22, 1919, in Prairie City. She was united in marriage to Arthur DeVries on January 6, 1944 in Pella. Edith worked on the farm with Arthur and raised the girls. She was a member of the Otley Reformed Church where she was active in several areas. She enjoyed crocheting, baking and especially her coffee time.

Those left to honor her memory include her three daughters, Lana (Dick) Vroom of Altoona, Kathy (Kit) Vander Ploeg of Monroe, and Arla Jane (Bill) Carson of Aurora, Illinois; six grandchildren; Vicki (Chris) Palm, Jodi (Justin) Hulbert, Erin (Greg) Salton, Josh (Laura) Vander Ploeg, Samantha Carson and Briana Carson; 10 great grandchildren, Ryan, Reese, Emersyn, Samuel, Cole, Kenna, Kara, Cooper, Maxwell, and Greyson. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Gertrude DeVries of Pella and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Edith in death were her parents; husband, Arthur; three brothers; one sister; a grandson, Jeffrey Vander Ploeg; and a great grandson, Griffin Vander Ploeg. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 4 June 2015.
