Monroe Farmer Was Killed By Lightning

Was Struck While Plowing In The Field Near His Home

Henry Muilenberg, a young farmer living near Monroe, was struck and instantly killed by lightning last Thursday about 11 o’clock. He was coming in from the field and was about a half mile from his home when the bolt struck him.

According to reports, the lightning struck him on the top of his head, tearing his cap and then running through his body into the handles of the plow. While the bolt of lightning broke the handles of the plow, it did not frighten or injure the team he was driving.

H. H. Rushing, a hired man, was within 40 feet of Mr. Muilenberg when the lightning struck and was not injured. A few small burns were found on the body of Mr. Muilenberg.

The deceased is survived by his widow and two small children and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Sunday. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thurs 9 June 1932.
