Funeral Services Held Saturday Afternoon From the Residence

Mrs. Lovina Holdefer, 83, a pioneer of this community died February 13th at her home in southeast Colfax following a short illness.

Funeral services were conducted from the home Saturday afternoon with the Rev. W. M. Doughty, officiating.

Mrs. Holdefer had been a resident of this community for sixty four years and until late years took an active part in the community and church affairs.

Lovina Hyatt Holdefer, daughter of Joseph and Shorloty Hyatt, was born at Solger, Kentucky, Dec. 25, 1857 and passed from this life Feb. 13th, 1941 at her home in Colfax, Iowa, age 83 years, 1 month and 18 days.

She came to Iowa in 1877. She was united in marriage to Phillip Holdefer Dec. 5, 1878 at Adel, Iowa.

To this union were born three children, Charles Minford of Colfax; Maude Ellen Clark of Colfax and Howard Harrison of Los Angeles, California.

She united with the Methodist Church Jan. 15th 1922.

She lived a happy Christian life and always followed the Golden Rule. Her husband passed away May 6, 1926. Since his death, she has had a lonely, troubled life.

Mrs. Holdefer was a hard working, friendly soul. She was one of the first to visit a home when illness came and helped as long as help was needed. She believed a person should bear his own burdens stalwartly and share in others. She had a happy philosophy of life and her moral ideals were high.
