Mrs. Bannister Hurst Died Saturday, May 14

Was One of The Early Pioneers In The Goddard Community

Mrs. Bannister Hurst passed away Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed. Stevenson, in Colfax, Saturday, May 15th, following an illness of some five weeks, although she had been poorly for some time past.

Mary and Hurst, daughter of Michael O'Grady and Ann Flynn was born at Watkins, N.Y. Jan. 8, 1851, and departed this world May 14, 1932, at the age of 81 years, 4 months, and 6 days, the last of a family of seven children, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. C. Stevenson, of Colfax.

In 1876 she was united in marriage with Charles Conway, in the East. A few months later her husband was accidentally killed. Soon after she came to Iowa, where a daughter, Mary Isabel, was born.

In 1880 she was again united in marriage with Bannister Hurst, making their home near Goddard, on Indian Creek, for forty years. They then moved to Bondon, Oregon, where her husband preceded her in death September 1919.

She was a good mother, a loving grandmother, an active worker in all religious and patriotic work, serving as president of the Women’s Relief Corp in Oregon for several years; was a member of the Methodist Church there.

She is survived by her only daughter, Mrs. E. C. Stevenson, of Colfax, five grandchildren, Elmer Stevenson of Moline, Ill., Mrs. Ellen Goss, Mrs. Mary Breckenridge, Lloyd and Lois Stevenson, all of Colfax, and six great grandchildren.

Her husband and one grandson, Harry Stevenson, preceding her in death.

Pall bearers were James Leonard, Thomas Leonard, Ellis Shissler, Henry Nicodemus, Earl Pink and Charles Watt.

Interment was at the Colfax cemetery, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30.
