Monroe - Jack Duncan, longtime resident of Monroe, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

John E. DuncanMONROE – Funeral services for John Edward Duncan, 66, of Monroe, a member of the Monroe City Council for seven years, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Monroe United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Jerry McGee, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.
Memorials to the church will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Lois; a son, John E.; three grandchildren; a sister, Frances Olsen of Birmingham, Ala.; and two brothers, William of Lake San Marcos, Calif., and D. Larry of Cedar Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean.
Mr. Duncan, a farmer until 1958, owned Duncan Stockyards until 1978 and drove a Monroe Community School bus for 12 years.
He was a member of the Newton Masonic Lodge 59 AF and AM.
The son of Donald and Aileene Lowe Duncan, he was born April 14, 1924 in Colfax and was a 1942 graduate of Monroe Community High School.
He was married to Lois Buckley Nov. 21, 1942. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 8 Feb 1991.
