Richard Marion Shields
1932-2015

Richard Marion Shields, Sr "Dick" 82, of Richmond Texas passed away on May 19, 2015 at home in his grandson Korey's arms with family present. He had recently been diagnosed with cancer. Dick was born in Newton Iowa to the late Marion and Francis Shields. As a child he was very involved in the family business Shields Auction House in Creston Iowa as well as the family farms.

Upon graduating from Creston high school where he played football and basketball, he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Randolph Air Force base in San Antonio. At that time Texas became his home.

After serving his country, during the Korean conflict, he began his career working for John L Wortham insurance company. He also attended classes at the University of Houston. He retired from Wortham at the age of 62.

He loved the water and spent many hours with friends and family fishing and doing all things that the lakes and oceans provided. He also was an avid golfer. Cruising was his favorite vacation.

One of his greatest pleasures was volunteering for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He began his service when the rodeo was at the Sam Houston Colosseum and he continued to volunteer through the move to the Astrodome and NRG stadium. He served on many committees such as the Astrodome Corral Club, the World Champion BBQ, the Ticket Trailer committee and many others. He passed this legacy on to his children whom also served on many committees. He was a Life Time Director for which we were all very proud.

He was preceded in death by his son Richard M. Shields Jr. He is survived by Donna Dugas, "the love of his life". His daughter Cindy and husband Scott Griswold, Grandsons Korey and Koby Griswold. Step children Craig Bundick and family and Lisa Phillips and Family.

We would like to thank Vantage Hospice for allowing us to keep him at home which was his wish as well as ours.

A celebration of a life well lived, will be held at Pecan Grove Country Club on May 31st at 3:00 PM. (3000 Plantation, Richmond Tx 77406)
Honorary Pallbearers – Ken Hucherson, Paul Patrick, Harry Bowles, Royce Pieser, Neil Masterson and David Howard
