Funeral services for B. Esther Willard Smothers, 80, 1900 N. 2nd Ave. E., a resident of the Newton area since 1959, were Monday, Jan. 6 at the Reese Chapel in Newton.

he Rev. George Salnave, pastor of the Montezuma Presbyterian Church, conducted services. Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.

Memorials to st. Francis Manor Craft Fund in grinnell will be accepted.

She died Friday morning at St. Francis Manor after suffering a stroke.

Survivors are her husband, Louis; seven sons, James of Montezumea, Garold and Jack, both of Grinnell, Raymond of Colfax, William of Marshalltown and Fred and Ed, both of Newton, 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lodema McCormick of Malcom and Dorothy Flemming of Norwalk.

The daughter of Peter and Mary Roberts Sammon, she was born Dec. 14, 1911 at Albia and attended Montezuma schools. ~ The Newton Daily News, Wednesday, January 8, 1992.
