Nicholas Nicholas Killed In Des Moines By Train

Was a Resident of Colfax For Many Years

Nicholas Nicholas, a former resident of Colfax and a brother of Mrs. Mary Rinker, was killed Tuesday evening, March 30th by a train in Des Moines.

Mr. Nicholas was returning to his home and had crossed some railroad tracks, (which was a short cut) when the accident happened. He was afflicted with spasmodic asthma and had stooped down to catch his breath during a spell of coughing, thinking perhaps he was far enough away from the tracks. He was struck on the side and back of the body and thrown into a ditch nearby. This was the finding of the coroner's jury.

Mr. Nicholas was a resident of Colfax for many years and while here directed the Redman Band. He will be remembered by many of the older residents.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 2nd from the Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines at 3:30 p.m.

Those attending the services from Colfax were Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Grundy, Mr. and Mrs. George Rinker, and Mr. and Mrs. John Rinker, from Newton Mrs. Mary A. Rinker and Mrs. Alex Barbour. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thurs 8 Apr 1937.
