Mabel Maixner

Mabel R. Maixner, 103, of 1105 E. 12th St. S. Apt. 308, died of diverticulitis Friday evening, Sept. 6, at Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral home in Newton. The Rev. Joseph Babcock, retired minister of the Foursquare Church in Newton, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Tuesday where the family will be present from 7 to 8 p.m.

Memorials to the McCann Center or Heritage Manor will be accepted.

Mrs. Maixner was born July 3, 1893, in Queen City, Mo. She was the daughter of John Wesley and Luella Fisher McNaught.

A resident of Newton since 1960, Mrs. Maixner previously lived in Des Moines.

She was a linotype operator for The Des Moines Register and Tribune, retiring in 1960. She had been in the printing trade since she was 16 years old.

She was a member of the Foursquare Church in Newton, Typographical Union 118, Jasper County Senior Citizens, RSVP and Skiff Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors are a daughter, Margaret (Mrs. Vernon) Bisom of Newton; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren and a son-in-law, Stewart Shroder of Prescott, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Charles Butler; her second husband, George Maixner; a brother, William McNaught; a sister, Mary McDowell; a daughter, Mildred Shroder; and a son-in-law Vernon Bisom. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 9 Sept 1996.
