MONROE - Funeral services for Dorothy L. Breckenridge, 84, of Monroe, will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Monroe United Presbyterian Church withthe Rev. Larry Gander, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Newton.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe where family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Breckenridge died from a stroke, Monday, Dec. 20, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

The daughter of Raymond and Etta May Wickliff Buckley, she was born June 4, 1915, in Colfax. She married Delmar Breckenridge Aug. 21, 1930.

A lifelong resident of Jasper County, Mrs. Breckenridge resided in Colfax, Newton and Monroe. She was emplyed by Winpower and was a school bus driver for the Newton Community School District. Mrs. Breckenridge was a member of the First Christian Church in Newton, the Newton Jasper County Camping Club, Malaka Home and Garden Club and was the state teen dirctor of the National Campers and Hikers Association.

Survivors include a son and daugher-in-law, Glen and Lorraine of Mitchell; a daugher and son-in-law, AdaBeth and Dale Hume of Monroe; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two brother, Arnold Buckley of Des Moines and Zane Buckley of Centerville; and five sisters, Jessie Couch and Violet Jean Revell, both of Newton, Josephine Bell of Colfax, Molly Warrick of Valeria and Joy Christian of Independence, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, two brothers and two sisters. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Wed 22 Dec 1999.
