Former Jasper County Lady Dies

Word was received here the last of the week of the death of Mrs. Mary Witmer Phillips, who passed away at her home in Des Moines, New Year's day.

It seems she has been living alone since her sister, Mrs. Barbara Jeffries, had gone to California to spend the winter. Not feeling well New Year's morning, she called for the doctor to come and when he arrived, found her sitting in a chair dead.

Mrs. Phillips was a former Jasper County resident, having spent her girlhood in the Sand Hill neighborhood.

She is survived by a brother, Dr. Witmer of Adel, sister, Mrs. Barbara Jeffries of Des Moines, and a brother, John Witmer, in Chicago.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from Dunn's Funeral Home and at the New Congregational Church, at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. E. G. Williams of Des Moines officiated, in Des Moines. Interment was had at the family lot in the Newton Cemetery. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thurs 7 Jan 1932.
