PRAIRIE CITY - Betty Ruth Scheffers Smallwood, 76, of Prairie City, a former resident of Newton, died Thursday, March 11, at the Des Moines General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City.

Dr. D. L. Downing, pastor of the King's Way Cathedral in Des Moines, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.

Friend may call at the funeral home after noon today and visitation with the family wil be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors are three sons, William Edwarad Fleming of Camden, Ark., Robert Lee Fleming of Wichita, Kan., and Russell Joe Fleming of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a daughter, Pamela Anne Smallwood of Newton; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.

A resident of Prairie City for the past 10 years, she had operated the Newton Bowl while a resident of Newton.

The daughter of Reuben and Ruby Everett Scheffers, she was born Nov. 28, 1916 at Prairie City. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 15 Mar 1993.
