Rowley, Harold Dean 1928-2013

Harold Dean Rowley was born on November 23, 1928 in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Irvin and Anna Rowley. He was raised in Knoxville, but had also lived in Newton, Pleasantville, Arizona, Altoona and Pleasant Hill.

Dean had worked a variety of jobs, including coal mining, farming, factory work at Maytag, Earl May’s Feed & Produce, Conoco and as a jailer. He was an active volunteer in 4-H, both as a club leader and as Horse Superintendent at the Marion County Fair. He enjoyed his volunteer work, horses and crafts.

Dean passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines at the age of 84 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, John.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Shirley; children, Roger (Martha) Rowley, Connie (Oral) VanSickle and Randy (Jackie) Rowley; nine step-children; siblings, Darlene (John) Scott, Myrle (Betty) Rowley, Louise (Melvin) Dennison, Larry (RoseAnn) Rowley and Gary (Suzane) Rowley; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday, July 17 with family present from 4 to 7 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. Burial will be in Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.

For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (Iowa Chapter), the Knoxville First United Methodist Church or to the Altoona United Methodist Church. ~ The Williams Funeral Home, Knoxville, Iowa 15 July 2013.
