Obituary
Sarah Charlesworth was born in Lankashire, England, Nov. 25, 1852, the eldest daughter in a family of 10 children. When a child of six years she came from England to America with her parents, James and Sarah Charlesworth, locating in Greensboro, Ind. In about a year's time the family moved westward and settled in Jasper county, Ia., about six miles south of Newton, where she grew to womanhood.

In 1876 she was united in marriage to William Hill, also of Jasper county. The wedding was solemnized in the United Brethren church in the Charlesworth neighborhood. Her early married life was spent on a farm in Palo Alto township. In the autumn of 1892 the family moved to Newton that they might obtain educational advantages for their three children. With the exception of one year spent in Chicago. Newton had been her home since coming here until her death, March 3, after a week's illness from pneumonia, at the home of her son, Frank E. Hill. She was 74 years old.

In April 1902, Mrs. Hill's son Hugh Hill, died at the age of 22 years. She was again bereaved in 1909 by the death of her husband.

In early life Mrs. Hill made confession of her faith in Christ and united with the United Brethren church. After her marriage she joined her husband in the United Presbyterian church membership in Palo Alto township. To her church she had ever remained faithful and true and loved to recall the loyalty of her husband in the Master's work. Her last attendance in church was on communion day six or seven weeks ago. She believed a woman's best efforts should be spent in her home and in the work of the church.
