Dick, the son of Rufus E. “Elroy” and Merna E. (Myers) Hancock, was born April 28, 1921 in Belknap, Iowa. He grew up in Bloomfield and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1939. He was a WW II Veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946. Upon his discharge from the Army, Dick moved to Newton.

He was united in marriage with Loretta P. Masters on December 15, 1946 in Newton.

Dick worked as an auto body man for Getz and Lauterbach Buick for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the First Christian Church. He enjoyed woodworking, playing video solitaire, going for walks and bike rides, and golfing. Dick also enjoyed telling jokes and stories to his friends and family.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loretta in 2001; 2 sons, Tony in 1998 and Eddy in 1961; 2 brothers, Roy and Ray Hancock; and 2 sisters, Loraine Law and Delores Martin.

Those left to honor Dick’s memory include his grandson, Kenneth (Hsi-Pin) Hancock of Milton, MA; granddaughter, Kimberly (Derick) Cranston of Kalona; 3 great-grandchildren: Anthony and Sarah Hancock of Milton, MA and Angel Cranston of Kalona; his daughter-in-law, Patricia (Ronald) McHenry of Aurora, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
