Dr. Raymond Fischer Frech, 92, of Newton died of heart failure, Thursday, April 20, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Matthew Martens, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home in Newton after 4 p.m. today where family will be present from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials to First Lutheran Church or Skiff Medical Center in Newton will be accepted.

The son of Raymond Edwin and Emma Agnes Fischer Frech, he was born Aug. 11, 1907, in St. Charles. He graduated from Drake University with a bachelor of science degree, later from the University of Iowa Medical School and completed his residency at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines. He married Iva F. Matteson Aug. 12, 1933, in Des Moines.

A former resident of Des Moines, Dr. Frech moved to Newton in 1934. He was a physician for more than 50 years before retiring in 1984, starting his career as a physician at the Maytag Company before starting his own private practice.

Dr. Frech was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Newton, Newton Kiwanis, Profits Unlimited Investment Club, Newton Country Club where he served as president in 1968, Degree of Fellowship American Academy of Family Physicians, the Iowa Chapter of American Academy of General Practice where he was former president and a member of the Skiff Medical Center Physicians where he also served as president.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughter-in-law, Richard of Fort Worth, Texas and Raymond and Ellen of Palatine, Ill.; a daughter, Beverly Mountsier of Newton; a sister, Lucille Coultrap of Downers Grove, Ill.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law and a brother. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Fri Apr 2000.
